Cops seize arms, ammo, drugs, police beret and ski masks
An early morning exercise carried out by San Rafael police yesterday resulted in the seizure of arms, ammunition, illegal drugs, a police beret, ski masks and the arrest of 12 persons. Reports revealed that around 4 am yesterday, a party of police officers of the San Rafael Police Station under the supervision of Sgt Osmond Williams, Cpls Winston Gomez, Elie and including PCs Tewarie, Oliver, Joseph and WPC Hospedales, were on exercise duty when they received information which led them to homes in Todds Road, Talparo, and the Arena Districts.
Officers seized a 12 gauge double-barrel shotgun and ammunition, illegal drugs, a police beret, and ski masks. At Todds Road, Talparo, the cops discovered the double-barrel shotgun and ammunition. Family members were arrested. The officers then went to a house in Arena Village where they found a police beret and ski masks. The police also seized a sizeable quantity of marijuana in a bag. Four persons were also arrested and charged with assembling to gamble. Overall, 12 persons were arrested.
One man was charged on an outstanding warrant while 11 others were charged for various offences, including possession of marijuana, possession of firearm and ammunition, possession of police uniform, and assembling for gambling. The exercise was coordinated by Snr Supt Ruthven Bastein and Insp Pierre. Charges for the various offences were laid by PCs Tewarie, Joseph and Oliver. All arrested persons are to appear before an Arima magistrate on Tuesday.
