Oropouche in dire need of water

With the present water shortage gripping parts of the nation’s capital, Opposition MP, Dr Roodal Moonilal, has called on Water and Sewerage Authority, (WASA), CEO, Errol Grimes, to assist in alleviating a water crisis that has gripped the constituency of Oropouche for the past six months. In a letter to the WASA CEO, Moonilal observed that appeals to the Authority’s officials in San Fernando had “not produced any significant results to the water crisis.”

“I have found it increasingly difficult to pacify those affected by this water crisis in Oropouche,” he stated. Moonilal added that villagers had been advised to “mobilise themselves to take whatever collective action deemed necessary to bring to bear the urgency of the problem to the relevant authorities.”

According to the UNC MP, the areas hardest hit by the water crisis include Picton/Diamond; Cuchawan Trace, Batchiyia Village; Ragoo Village; Gopie Trace; Debe Trace; San Francique; Puzzle Island; Hermitage and parts of Woodland. Moonilal concluded: “Our citizens who deserve equal treatment before all public authorities cannot take such neglect for much longer.”
