Purse snatcher jailed

A purse snatcher was sentenced to 12 months hard labour by a Sangre Grande magistrate on Thursday. The accused, Imran Karim, 27, of Mc Shine Street, Sangre Grande, appeared before magistrate Cheryl Ann Blake in the Sangre Grande First Magistrate Court char-ged with larceny.


He pleaded guilty for the offence  and had a conviction of 12 months hard labour slapped on him by Magistrate Blake. Cpl Wayne Coutain, Prosecutor told the court around 8 am on Wednesday, Sharmitee Sankar, a teacher, was walking along the Eastern Main Road, Sangre Grande when the accused grabbed her purse and ran away. 


Sankar raised an alarm which caught the attention of Cpl Christopher Fuentes and Detective Randy Castillo who were on patrol. Karim was arrested by the officers. He was taken to the Sangre Grande Police Station where he was charged with the offence by Detective Castillo.
