Visitor abducted and robbed

A German visitor was abducted and robbed last week Friday as she left a popular restaurant near Scarborough. It is alleged that the 46-year-old victim was entering her car when several men boarded the vehicle. The victim was robbed of jewelry and driven to her guest house where she was further robbed of valuables. They reportedly parked the vehicle some distance from the guest house; and two men went into the victim’s apartment and stole a number of items, which, together with the jewelry, was valued at $18,000.

The victim was then taken to a field on the outskirts of Scarborough where she was tied up. Subsequently, three men from North Trinidad appeared in the Scarborough Magistrates’ Court Thursday charged jointly with kidnapping, false imprisonment, robbery with aggravation, and burglary. The three accused, aged 18, 23, and 21, were remanded in custody and advised of their right to apply for bail before a judge, by Senior Magistrate Annette McKenzie.

The 23-year-old accused is also charged separately with three counts of serious indecency. Charges were laid by Detective Alicia Piggott, of Old Grange Police. The accused alleged that they were beaten by police and the magistrate ordered that they be medically examined and reports be submitted to the court when the accused reappear on Thursday.
