Man chopped, robbed at Princes Town

A Princes Town businessman was chopped during a struggle with two cutlass-wielding intruders, who robbed him of $12,500 worth of items, at his home yesterday morning. Fortunately, Glenford Harrington, 52, a tyre shop proprietor, sustained minor injuries to his forehead and was treated and discharged from the Princes Town Hospital.

Harrington told police he retired to bed around 10.30 pm on Friday, after he secured his Manahambre Road, Princes Town, home. Awoken by a noise, around 1.25 am yesterday, Harrington said he saw two masked men armed with cutlasses in his bedroom. The businessman told police he jumped off the bed and tried to disarm one of the bandits but was chopped on his head. A bleeding Harrington fell to the ground, and was ordered by the bandits to give up his valuables.

He was robbed of $7,000 worth of jewelry, a Motorola mobile phone valued at $1,500 and a computer and printer valued at $4,000. The men then escaped. Sgt Errol Ramdath and PC Fortune of the Princes Town Police Station are continuing investigations.
