Tobago Terminal back to normal

THE TOBAGO Terminal of the Piarco International Airport yesterday returned to a level of normalcy, following the situation on Thursday and Friday where hundreds of standby passengers were left stranded due to the unavailability of seats on flights to Tobago. The situation developed when hundreds of people, hoping to travel to the sister isle Tobago for the Easter weekend, found themselves waiting for long hours at Piarco International Airport to get on a standby flight.

The situation was compounded by the fact that all confirmed passengers for the 22 flights scheduled to travel to Tobago, turned up on time to be seated on their flights. An employee of Tobago Express told Newsday that things had gone back to normal with a limited number of standby passengers travelling to Tobago. She said that 22 flights were scheduled to travel to Tobago yesterday, noting that the airline usually increased the number of flights during public holidays and vacation periods, in order to cater for the influx of passengers.

She noted that people usually purchased tickets on standby hoping that confirmed passengers would not turn up for their flights or would arrive later than they should, giving them (the standby passengers) a chance at securing seats to Tobago. She said, “Purchasing your ticket in advance or making your reservation by phone is usually the safest way to make sure that you get on board.”
