Couple charged with cursing
POLICE had cause to arrest and charge a married couple during a birthday bash at their Monkey Town, Barrackpore home, last Wednesday. Both the birthday celebrant and his wife, a mother of three, were hauled down to the Barrackpore Police Station after they reportedly shouted obscenities at the police.
Reports said a party of officers, including Cpl Narinesingh, PCs Mohammed and Manzone had gone to the home after they received a report. On arrival there, they met the couple, who seemed to be highly intoxicated and had a strong alcohol odour.
While the police were speaking to the 42-year-old woman and her 54-year-old husband, the woman walked away and went by a neighbour’s house where she used expletives to express her disgust with the police intervention. The couple was taken to the station where, inspite of their pleas for a chance, was charged with obscene language. The following morning the couple went before a Princes Town magistrate and the matter was adjourned to May 15.
