Man drowns at Balandra

An outing to the beach over the weekend turned tragic yesterday for a group of friends after a member of the group drowned. According to reports, Gregory Hernandez was bathing with friends at 2 pm on Sunday at Balandra Bay, when he got into difficulty.

Hernandez’s friends, several of whom were also in the water, were alerted by the man’s cries for help and rushed to his assistance. Hernandez, who was some distance away from the group, was eventually pulled out of the water and rushed to the Sangre Grande District Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. Mathura police are investigating.
