Panorama champs Exodus to play third
Reigning National Steelband Panorama champion Exodus Steel Orchestra will appear in position number three at the Pan in the 21st Century competition taking place at the Queen’s Park Savannah, Port-of-Spain on Saturday starting at 6 pm. The St Augustine-based orchestra scored the second highest number of points (266) in the preliminary round of the contest, one point behind Petrotrin Phase II Pan Groove Steel Orchestra. In the Pan Down Memory Lane contest for single pan bands, defending champion La Horquetta Pan Groove, which also scored 266 points, will play in 11th position.
Presented by Pan Trinbago and sponsored by Telecommunication Services of Trinidad and Tobago, the two competitions attracted a record number of entries from which 12 single pan and 12 conventional bands have qualified to appear before the panels of judges and compete for the first prizes of $15,000 and $50,000 respectively. The joint final, billed as “Refreshing Pan,” is the result of six consecutive nights of panyard judging by separate adjudication panels. Tickets can be purchased at PANTAC, Queen’s Park Savannah, or at advertised outlets.
