NUGFW salutes Lara
THE NATIONAL Union of Government and Federated Workers (NUGFW) has congratulated West Indies cricket captain Brian Lara for his “invaluable and massive contribution to the sport.” Commenting on Lara’s record-breaking performance at the Antigua Recreation Ground on Easter Monday, the union noted in a statement that it was only ten years ago on the same ground that Lara’s name was written in the record book for having made 375 runs in a Test innings.
NUGFW president general Robert Giuseppi, who claims he has “always been Lara’s biggest fan,” said he had always been confident that the cricket superstar would be “the one to restore the West Indies cricket team to the grace and pinnacle it once enjoyed.” “His determination and willingness to do great is an attribute that should be mimicked by all, especially the working class in society which struggles on a daily basis to get what is duly theirs.
“That is what the working class struggle is about: hard work, determination, focus and eventually success will come. “Kudos and congratulations to Brian Lara. You are indeed a cricketing legend and a role model for not only the youth in society to follow, but for every one else.”
