Presidential congrats for Lara

PRESIDENT George Maxwell Richards yesterday added his congratulations to cricketer Brian Lara, and wished him more successes for the future. In his message to Lara, President Richards said all that can be said may well have been said about “your superlative display of genius in Antigua, where once again you have rewritten world cricket history.”

But his Excellency added that Lara’s performance “testifies not only to your cricketing skills in so many aspects, but to your personal characteristics of focus, tenacity and sense of purpose.” He said the celebration by the West Indies and the world, was “no ordinary occasion, especially at this time when young people all over the world are assailed on every side by a deluge of negative circumstances.”

The President said April 12, 2004 will stand out as an “inspiration for our youth and for all those who collaborate in their welfare.” “That deed goes well beyond cricket and embraces us all, West Indians as well as others, in a mission to demonstrate what is possible when we determine to use our God-given talent for the greater good.”
