$14,000 disappears from South hotel
SAN FERNANDO police are investigating the disappearance and possible theft of $14,000 from the recently opened Para Suites Hotel on South Trunk Road, La Romaine. The money was discovered missing on Wednesday, hours after $36,500 was reportedly deposited at First Citizens Bank (FCB), Gulf City Shopping Complex, into the account of the South hotel.
A bank teller contacted Para Suites after she compared the sum on the deposit slip to the amount in the money bag and discovered there was $14,000 less than what was written on the slip. According to police reports, an accounts clerk at the hotel checked the money at around 9.30 am on Sunday and placed it in a drawer in the accounts office of the hotel. Around 9.30 am on Wednesday, another clerk placed the money in a money-bag, reportedly without checking it.
The clerk subsequently deposited the bag with a deposit slip at the Gulf City branch of FCB. However, two hours later, when the bank teller checked the money, she found it was less than what had been written on the deposit slip. When contacted yesterday, officials of the FCB branch and the hotel refused to comment on the incident. Officers of the San Fernando CID are continuing investigations.
