Major celebration planned for Lara
PRIME MINISTER Patrick Manning yesterday disclosed that he spoke with West Indies captain Brian Lara about determining the best way that Trinidad and Tobago could celebrate his monumental achievement of scoring 400 runs in an innings during a Test match.
Speaking at the post-Cabinet news conference at Whitehall, the Prime Minister said he contacted Lara in Antigua and they spoke about celebrations being planned for the West Indies skipper when he returns home on Tuesday. Manning said Lara would be intimately involved in the planning of next week’s facilities so that it would not clash with his cricketing duties in the One-day series against England which begins tomorrow in Bourda, Guyana.
However, he hinted that next week’s celebrations would be unlike any that TT has ever seen. The Prime Minister added that discussions were still ongoing about how Government should properly honour Lara’s achievement.
