No inflation in TT
PRIME MINISTER and Finance Minister, Patrick Manning, yesterday assured the population that inflation is not running amok in Trinidad and Tobago. Speaking at the post-Cabinet news conference at Whitehall, the Prime Minister said: “Inflation continues to be the biggest problem that the Government faces as we accelerate the rate of the country’s development.
There are some standard approaches by which that could be dealt with and the Ministry of Finance is not unfamiliar with some of these approaches. We passed this way in the early 70s and in the late 70s. Therefore, we are not without experience. It will call for skill in managing that inflation to ensure that our situation does not get out of hand.”
Asked whether TT had reached that stage, Manning replied: “ No, not yet. We have a limit. We set a limitation level of seven percent. Last year we were 3.4 percent. I don’t have the latest figures, but we are not at seven. When we get there, you will know.”
