Another Cocorite youth shot dead

Just two days after two Cocorite teenaged brothers were killed, another teenager, 19-year-old Devon Cox from Cocorite Terrace, was gunned down. While the three killings have plunged the Cocorite area into mourning, the motive behind this latest murder, according to residents, has a somewhat different twist. Relatives of the deceased believe that Cox was killed by his life long friend. According to reports, at about 2 am yesterday, Cox, who had returned from a christening in the area a short while before, died after being shot by a man he knew. When Newsday visited the home of the deceased yesterday, relatives wept openly, saying they were still trying to make sense of what had happened.

Devon’s sister Lynette explained that she ran out of the house after hearing loud explosions and  found her brother lying in a pool of blood. He was shot in the head. She said the asasailant turned the gun on her as she ran to her bleeding brother’s rescue, but she said she pleaded for her life and her brother’s as well. “I told him, (name called) why yuh do this. Devon is your friend boy! How you could do this. What you want to kill me for? I have two children to see about,” cried Cox’s sister as she gave an account of the story. Lynette said the gunman ran off.
