Chaguanas man charged with murder
A 20-year-old Chaguanas man has been charged for the murder of 19-year-old Mark Boodoo. He was the third young man in the family to die under tragic circumstances in 18 months. Cpl Balchan Salick of the Chaguanas CID laid the charge of murder against the man yesterday. Boodoo of Edinburgh 500, was shot dead on Monday night with a single bullet to the heart. Reports revealed that around 7.20 pm, Boodoo was standing under the Chaguanas Flyover in company with a 17-year-old girl and another man when a man began arguing with Boodoo.
The man accused Boodoo of stealing his girlfriend. Reports revealed that the murder accused pistol-whipped Boodoo and then shot him. Boodoo ran a short distance away, then collapsed. He managed to point out the killer to off duty CID officer PC Christopher Langley, who was at the time driving his car along the Chaguanas Main Road. He pursued the suspect and caught him at Penco Street, Montrose. A .38 revolver with five rounds and a spent shell were recovered.
A party of officers led by Supt Fredericks, Inspector Burt Raphael, Ag Sgt Ajith Persad and others went to the scene along with a District Medical Officer. Boodoo was pronounced dead on arrival at the Chaguanas Health Centre. The suspect was interviewed and directions were sought from the DPP yesterday. Angel Boodoo, sister of the dead man, told Newsday her brother was attending Upper Level College and was a homely and God fearing person. The accused man will appear before a Chaguanas magistrate today.
