Accreditation Council Bill goes to Senate
SCIENCE, Technology and Tertiary Education Minister Colm Imbert will open debate on the Accreditation Council of Trinidad and Tobago Bill 2004 when the Senate sits next Tuesday at 1.30 pm. The purpose of the Bill is to establish in TT “a national body responsible for the registration and accreditation of post-secondary and tertiary institutions operating in TT and for the recognition of post-secondary and tertiary qualifications acquired in TT and elsewhere.”
This body will have a strong working relationship with regional accreditation bodies established by Caricom and “will report to the appropriate Minister annually, ensuring that its operations are consistent with the policy directives of the Government.” The Bill was introduced in the House of Representatives on March 12 and passed with minor amendments on April 2. Debate is also expected to begin on a motion to approve the Agricultural Census Order 2004 and the Senate is expected to approve amendments to the Telecommunications (Amend-ment) Bill 2004.
