Woman to stand trial for husband’s murder
A 50-year-old woman wept openly yesterday after she and three co-accused were committed to stand trial at the next sitting of the San Fernando Assizes for the murder of her husband. Irene Ragbir is jointly charged with Edmond Ancil, 30, Ashford Ramshan, 28, and Bruce Henry, 26, for killing Petrotrin employee Kelvin Ragbir, whose body was discovered lying in a pool of blood in his garage at Antonie Branch Trace, Quarry Village in Siparia, on November 2, 2002. He was stabbed to death.
The accused quartet first appeared in the Siparia Magistrates’ Court on December 10, 2002, charged with the murder. Magistrate Lucina Cardinas-Ragoonanan yesterday ruled the prosecution, led by State Counsels Chris Seelochan and Kathy-Ann Alexander, had made out a prima facie case against the four and committed them to stand trial in the High Court. The team of defence attorneys included Prakash Ramadhar, Vishuntah Rambharan, Brian Dabideen, Subhas Panday and Roger Ramgoolam.
