Homicide officers probe cop in fatal hit-and-run

HOMICIDE detectives have taken over investigations in which a police corporal is the prime suspect in the death of an 85-year-old man in  a hit-and-run accident. The officer, who is attached to a station in South-Western Division, is still on duty although he is being investigated for his alleged role in the unlawful death of pensioner Lawrence Garcia of Hickling Village, Fyzabad.

Garcia was knocked down and left for dead on April 8. When the police found Garcia on the road, he had a weak pulse but died before an ambulance arrived on the scene. Police said after knocking down Garcia, the officer went to a police station and reported the hit-and-run accident as if he had spotted Garcia lying on the road. Officers became suspicious when they found blood stains on the officer’s car. Investigations are continuing.
