Arouca man killed in car crash

RICHARD HENRY, a 23-year-old Arouca man, became the country’s 69th road fatality for the year when he lost control of his car and crashed into the Tunapuna Hindu School. Another occupant of the car, Tessour Murray, 25, suffered serious injuries and is now warded at the Port-of-Spain General Hospital. The two were on their way to buy burgers when the accident occurred. According to reports, Henry, an Airports Authority security guard, was driving his grey Honda Civic on the Churchill Roosevelt Highway at around 11.10 pm. On reaching the walkover at Pasea, he lost control of the car and crashed in to the wall at the Tunapuna Hindu School. Henry died on the spot.

Murray, who was seated in the front passenger seat, suffered serious injuries and was rushed to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital by EHS officers where he was treated and warded. District Medical Officer Dr Viya Maharaj visited the crash scene along with Ag Sgt Jagmohan and Cpl Wilson. The body was ordered removed to the Port-of-Spain Mortuary. Eighty persons died in road fatalities over the same period last year. The dead man’s father, Roger Henry, told Newsday that his son was a very disciplined person who was loved by all who knew him. He added that as far as he is aware, his son was a very good driver and only recently bought his car. Richard Henry would have celebrated his 24th birthday on July 25.

His grieving father said he received a call from the police around 2.30 am yesterday informing him that his son was involved in a very serious accident. When he went to the police station, he was told the shocking news that his son was killed. Yesterday, Seeta Henry, the mother of the dead man, was in a state of grief and shock over the death of her son. The wrecked car was towed to the Tunapuna Police Station. ACP Mobile Nazamul Hosein yesterday pleaded with motorists to exercise extreme caution advising people to observe the speed limits and drive safely in order to preserve lives.
