Man guilty of sex attack on stepdaughter

A LA HORQUETTA man, who was yesterday found guilty of sexually assaulting his 11-year-old step-daughter on four separate occasions between May and September 1998, will be sentenced on Monday by High Court Judge Malcolm Holdip. Defence attorney Clyde Weatherhead will first deliver a mitigation plea on behalf of his client, after which Justice Holdip, presiding over the Port-of-Spain Fifth Criminal Court, will hand down the sentence.

The 51-year-old man was found guilty yesterday by a nine-member jury, comprising of five women and four men, of two counts of serious indecency and two counts of having sexual intercourse with a minor. The jury returned the guilty verdict after deliberating for just over 45 minutes. After the verdict, Weatherhead asked Justice Holdip for an adjournment so that he could formulate a mitigation plea.
