NWRHA denies chicken pox outbreak

Communications manager at the North West Regional Health Authority (NWRHA), Charmaine Codrington, yesterday told Newsday that there is no outbreak of chicken pox in Trinidad and Tobago. There were reports of  ten cases of the disease at the St Ann’s Hospital, but Codrington said everything was under control and that it was nothing unusual for someone to contract the contagious disease, especially if one is in the presence of hundreds of fellow patients or fellow workers where the germ is in the air.

She also indicated that since the detection of the ten cases two weeks ago, no more cases of chicken pox have been diagnosed at the institution. Efforts to contact the Minister of Health for corroboration of the situation at St Ann’s proved futile. Public relations officer at the Ministry, Keith Sancho, could not comment on the matter stating that he was unaware of a chicken pox outbreak.
