Labourer guilty of sexual offences
A 27-year-old labourer was yesterday found guilty of six counts of robbery, serious indecency, and indecent assault. Allan Jones, of St Helena Village, Piarco, was before Madame Justice Alice Yorke-Soo Hon in the Port-of-Spain Third Criminal Court charged with committing the acts on two sisters, aged 26 and 17 at Piarco on May 10, 1999. The mixed jury deliberated for just over two hours in returning the guilty verdicts. State attorney Angelica Teelucksingh prosecuted, while Hayden St Clair-Douglas represented the accused. The judge postponed sentencing to tomorrow.
The court heard that the accused, who was armed with a knife, and another man with a gun, attacked the two sisters at their home in St Helena around 3.30 am on May 10, 1999. They robbed the sisters of jewelry, a walkman radio and $120 in cash. They then fondled the sisters and made them perform indecent acts. The sisters recognised Jones before he put on his mask, as well as his voice, during the almost one hour ordeal. In his defence, Jones denied he committed the acts. He said he was at home at the time and called his sister and another friend as his witnesses.
