Palo Seco students writing cxc exams

The Education Ministry yesterday confirmed that 24 of the 31 teachers at the Palo Seco Government Secondary had reported for duty, and students who had registered with the Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) had begun their examinations in Art at the school’s art room. Students will take examinations in Technical Drawing, Food and Nutrition, and Agricultural Science later this week, the Ministry stated. Ninety-three students of the school will be examined by CXC in 19 subject areas from May 19, and the examinations will be held at the Los Bajos Youth Centre.

School supervisor Silochan Roopnarine and principal Fitzgerald Jeffrey assured both students and teachers that desks, chairs, fans, partitions and blackboards will be in place by today. After a request by some parents last week, the Ministry arranged to have an area adjacent to the burnt-out school paved, along with erected tents in which to house students and teachers for the time. Throughout the weekend, contractors were at the school ensuring the area was ready for yesterday’s resumption of classes, and that all utilities were in place for the comfort of students and teachers. The Ministry has proposed to construct a prefabricated building by July 8 on the site of the classroom block that was destroyed by fire on April 7.
