2 charged with kidnapping Maraval man
TWO MEN yesterday appeared in the Port-of-Spain Magistrates’ Court charged with the kidnapping of a Maraval man, Rondell Lord. Appearing before Magistrate Ejenny Espinet were 23-year-old Kester Romany, of Morne Coco Road, Maraval, and 25-year-old Dillon James, of Saddle Road, Maraval. The men were not called on to plead as the charges were laid indictably.
Both are accused of taking Lord against his will on May 7. It is alleged that the accused snatched Lord from his Silver Terrace, Maraval home at about three o’clock on May 7. Some time later, Lord’s abductors called his wife Elizabeth and demanded that she pay $100,000 for his safe return. However, officers attached to the AKS, after setting up a sting operation, held two suspects. When the men appeared before magistrate Espinet, the magistrate enquired whether the two had any previous convictions.
After her enquiries, the magistrate ordered that James be granted bail in the sum of $100,000 on the condition that he report to the Maraval Police Station every day between the hours of 1 and 5 pm. His accomplice, Kester Romany, however, was not as fortunate as he was remanded into custody. The magistrate informed Romany that he would be able to apply to a judge in chambers for bail. The accused kidnappers, who were not represented yesterday, will reappear in court on May 21.
