Two UWI students robbed in broad daylight

TWO students of the University of the West Indies, St Augustine were robbed in broad daylight yesterday while walking near the place of higher learning. According to reports, at around 2 pm accounts students Lisa Sheen and Toya Toptom were walking along Carmody road, located just outside the university compound when they were accosted by a man who whipped out a gun and ordered them to hand over all their valuables.

The two women were relieved of $2,000 worth of gold chains, pendants and bangels. They were also robbed of $450 cash. The man then made good his escape. In recent times, the Students’ guild, the university board and the government have been locked in heavy debate over security at the university, after a string of robberies and rapes around the campus. Constable Che DeSilva is continuing enquiries.
