SRP arrested with stolen car
A Special Reserve Policeman (SRP) was arrested while driving a stolen car which was adorned with accessories from another car stolen from a senior cop. The arrested cop is one of 300 cops recently inducted to fight the escalating crime situation in TT. According to reports, investigator Cpl Wayne Winston and the senior officer’s son were returning from an ID parade at the La Horquetta Police Station at around 4.45 pm on Wednesday, when the cop’s son saw the accessories of his stolen car on a black Lancer car passing in front of the station. He informed the police and the car was intercepted in Paradise West Gardens in Tacarigua, driven by an SRP attached to the Highway Patrol.
The car from which the accessories were stolen was taken at gunpoint on May 6 at Montague Gardens in Tacarigua. It belonged to the senior officer. The following day, the stolen car was found in Blanchisseuse, minus the accessories. The senior officer’s son saw the accessories when he went to the station to identify the men who he said had robbed him. After intercepting the car, police, acting on information, went to several houses in La Horquetta where they recovered stolen car parts, DVDs and electronic equipment.
They believe the items were stolen in La Horquetta and Arima. The car the SRP was driving was also reported stolen from the Arouca area on March 1 and is believed to have been used in several robberies. The exercise, coordinated by Cpl Winston, included acting Cpl Mark Maraj, Constables Naim Gyans, Shawn Bedassie and Inskip Julien. The young cop is expected to appear before an Arima magistrate on Monday.
