Cop shot in robbery attempt

An off duty police officer was shot during a robbery attempt on Friday night. According to reports Daniel Hernandez, a police constable attached to the Interagency Task Force was shot while driving his car. Reports state that about 8.20 pm the officer picked up three men and a woman in Curepe and was heading to Chaguanas. On reaching the Endeavour Flyover, one of the men in the back seat of the car whipped out a gun and ordered Hernendez to stop the car. A struggle ensued and Hernandez was shot in the left leg.

The three men and the lone woman escaped with the police officer’s car. Eyewitnesses took the bleeding man to the Chaguanas Health Facility where he was treated for injuries sustained, and later transferred to the Port-of-Spain general Hospital, where he remains warded.  Chaguanas police are investigating.
