Las cuevas Fisherman murdered in bed

Police are yet to establish a motive behind the shooting death of a Las Cuevas fisherman who  was killed yesterday morning. Dead is Augustine Burnley. According to reports, Burnley was shot to death while sleeping at his girlfriend’s Cutucoparo, Santa Cruz home during the early hours of yesterday morning. His girlfriend, 19-year-old Adana Damani was in a pensive mood when Sunday Newsday visited yesterday. Fearful for her life, Adana says she’s thankful to be alive. She explained that she came face to face with the three masked men who killed her boyfriend. According to Damani, at about 1.30 yesterday morning, she got up to use the bathroom, and then went outside to smoke a cigarette. She says it was at this point that the fatal turn of events began.

“When I went outside, I just see these three masked men standing in front my gate. All three of them walked inside the yard. One held a gun to my head and told me to not to move,” said Damani. The grieving girlfriend said she begged the two other men who were going inside the house, not to harm her daughter. The men, she said, told her they did not come for that, and gave her their word that her daughter would be safe. Shortly afterwards, Damani said she heard three shots. The men then calmly left the premises, leaving Damani and her other family members unharmed. Her boyfriend, however, was shot dead. Damani’s relatives, who were reluctant to be interviewed, directed Sunday Newsday to Burnley’s Las Cuevas home saying he should not have been at their home in the first place.

Burnley’s mother, Victoria Burnley Valentine, said she was shocked upon hearing the news of her son’s death. “My son did some wrong in the past, but he gave his life to God at the Deliverance Temple recently. “He used to pray a lot. I cannot imagine why anyone would want to hurt him,” lamented the grief stricken mother. Asked whether she held any anger towards her son’s killers, all Victoria Burnley Valentine would say is “That was my son and I would leave that to God.” The grieving woman, who occasionally held her head, sat looking almost dazed when she spoke of her son’s life. “He was a very nice person, and a good father to the one child, a boy, that he had. I cannot understand this, right now I am still very shocked at this whole situation,” said the dead man’s mother. Santa Cruz police are investigating the country’s latest murder, under the supervision of Snr Supt Waldron Bishop.
