Police arrest 44

Forty-four persons were arrested in police exercises between 12.05 am and 6 am on Friday. Reports state that in the exercise, which spanned from Carenage in the West to Santa Cruz in the East, persons were arrested on outstanding warrants, while others were held for robberies, possession of narcotics, arms and ammunition. One man was held for rape.

Twenty-three of those arrested are from the Morvant, Laventille, San Juan and Santa Cruz areas, while the other 21 are from Cocorite, Diego Martin and Carenage. A .38 revolver and six rounds of ammunition were seized in a house at La Puerta, Diego Martin, and six persons were arrested. They are all to appear before Port-of-Spain magistrates tomorrow.
