11 rifles missing

Eleven disabled rifles stolen Sunday night from the storeroom of the Belmont Secondary School are still missing. The World War II 303 rifles, which are not able to be discharged, are stolen Sunday night after the caretaker was beaten, gagged and tied up. The shotguns were used by the Cadet Force at the school during training. According to reports, the school’s caretaker, who lives on the compound, was alerted by barking dogs around 7 pm. When he investigated, he was accosted by three armed bandits who tied him up and made off with thousands of dollars worth of electronic equipment.

Sometime later, the caretaker was able to free himself and found the store room  broken into. The manager of the school was contacted and, on checking, noted that the rifles were missing. A report was made to the Belmont Police Station, while the caretaker was taken to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital, where he was treated and discharged. Acting Insp Allen of the Belmont Police Station is investigating.
