Mr Manning does not see the problem

THE EDITOR:  It is supposed to be a month for celebrating the life of Trinidad and Tobago as both Independence and Republic days fall at the beginning and the end of this month. However there is not much to celebrate, is there? Amongst the most glaring signs of disharmony is the fact that an Indian-based group thought it necessary to present their own awards on Independence as an alternative to the National awards. Interesting to note is that they received support from the wider community, including myself. The reason for this is the continued blatant ignorance of our present Government to see the disenchantment of our people with the policies of this current regime. What is more insulting is that the Prime Minister does not see (even with laser surgery) that there is a problem, therefore, because he cannot see it, it does not exist, and henceforth everything goes on like normal.

Again to salt the wounds, the leader who “morally and spiritually” inaugurated you in that post has come out and said that we lack good leadership! When will you see that this country is a time bomb waiting to explode! Now that the Indian community has begun to cloister in their hub and create their own system within the systems they feel oppressed in, do not think that it is not a glaring sign of the mass haemorrhaging of our so called “harmony.” Indians are not known for confrontation but building in their own strength. If they feel slighted  they create their own means to satisfy their needs without violence. I congratulate them for looking in themselves to answer their need for recognition and not clamour to the Government for what they think is rightly theirs. I support the organisation that created this, and maybe in the near future I could be a proud recipient of one of their awards.
