Sisters tied up, robbed of $14,000 in jewelry
While the nation was virtually locked down and bracing for the effects of Hurricane Ivan, two South Oropouche sisters were tied up and robbed of over $14,000 at their home on Tuesday evening. According to police reports, the sisters, aged 19 and 20, were standing in the yard of their Harris Village apartment in South Oropouche around 8.45 pm, when two men dressed in army-type camouflage clothing jumped over a fence and announced a hold-up.
The men, one armed with a gun, ordered the young women into the apartment where they were tied up on a bed and robbed of $14,700 worth of jewelry and other items including shoes. The bandits then escaped on foot. The sisters raised an alarm and were freed. A report was made to the Oropouche police and a team of officers led by Cpl Gangaram visited the scene. Police are continuing investigations. No arrests have been made since.
