Guard killed on way home
A security guard on his way home to Maloney Gardens yesterday morning was killed when he was knocked down by a maxi taxi on the east bound lane of the Churchill Roosevelt Highway in the vicinity of the National Education Centre and dragged for about 20 feet killing him instantly. According to information around 5.30 am Errol Richardson, 43, was crossing the east bound lane while trying to average the speed of the oncoming vehicle when he was struck by the maxi taxi.. This fatality brings the number to 139 for the year, ten less than the same period last year. Cpl Augustine of the Maloney Police Post is investigating.
In an unrelated matter, officers of the Arouca Police Station are investigating the circumstances under which four students, one from the Trinity College (Boys) East and the three from Bishops Ainsley High (Girls) were knocked down on Wednesday evening while waiting for transportation. According to information the four students ages 11 to 12 were awaiting transport at the Trincity Mall Link Road and Eastern Main Road intersection around 3.45 pm when a car driven by a woman travelling west on the Eastern Main Road ploughed into them. All four were rushed to the Mt Hope Children’s Hospital. Three sustained broken limbs and were warded, while the fourth was treated and discharged. PC Joyea is investigating.
