Vagrant killed in Barataria
THIS COUNTRY’S murder statistics jumped again yesterday morning with the murders of a father of four in Belmont and a vagrant in Barataria. Former murder accused and convict Marlon Gay, 30, was shot dead around 8 pm Thursday night, while standing at the corner of Stewart Lane and Roget Place in Belmont. Three hours later, residents of Fifth Avenue in Barataria contacted Barataria police after they heard noise coming from an abandoned house. When officers investigated, they found the body of a vagrant lying in a pool of blood behind the house. The body bore several chop wounds.
Gay, a father of four, was standing at the corner when two men, one holding a baby, walked up to him. The man holding the baby handed the baby to an accomplice, whipped out a gun and fired a shot at Gay. Both men then ran off. Police were contacted and they in turn contacted the District Medical Officer who ordered the body removed to the Forensic Sciences Centre for an autopsy. Belmont police are investigating. In the other killing, residents at Fifth Avenue, Barataria, heard screaming coming from a house around 11 pm Thursday, and looked out to see three men running away. Police responded at about 4 am and found the body of a vagrant lying in a pool of blood. Visiting the scene were Snr Supt Bishop, Insp Coa and Sgt Abraham. Sgt Abraham is investigating.
