Father of three robbed, gagged, killed

A 51-year-old father of three became the country’s 212th murder victim for the year when he was hijacked, gagged, hogtied, robbed and placed in the trunk of his car between Friday night and early yesterday. Baldath Balgobin is believed to have suffocated to death after he left his Boundary Road, Felicity home around 4 pm on Friday, to work his private car for hire. Around 8 pm on Friday, he dropped off a relative at a nearby video club in Felicity and at around 10 pm, his car, which there were three occupants, was seen in the Chaguanas area.

When Balgobin failed to return home around midnight on Friday, a frantic search was carried out for him. Around 8 am yesterday, a relative saw his car parked along Trasalguar Street. He alerted the Chaguanas Police and a party of officers led by Insp Kirk, Acting Sgt Persad, Cpl Balchan Salick, PC Kirk Sheppard, Estate Const Phillip and police photographer Beckles went to the scene. Checks were carried out for prints by officers of the Crime Scene Unit.

Dularie Balgobin, the wife of the deceased was unconsolable at her Felicity home yesterday. The deceased was described as a kind, helpful and respected person. He was a former Caroni Limited worker and attended the Assembly of God Church. Relatives believe that the person/s who killed Balgobin had planned his murder, since his attacker/s might have felt that he had lots of money from his VSEP package.
