Major shake-up in Police Service

POLICE Commissioner Trevor Paul has ordered the transfers of several senior police officers. Effective Friday, Snr Supt Lennox Gonzales was transferred from Western Division to Guard and Emergency Branch. He will be replaced by Snr Supt Nevin Wilson, formerly of Central Division. Snr Supt Barnet Mayers will replace Wilson, and Snr Supt Felix Nimrod will now head the South Western Division.

Supt Roderick Roach, formerly of Highway Patrol, will now act as the superintendent in charge of the Inter-Agency Task Force, and he will be replaced by acting Snr Supt Nadir Mohammed. In the Port-of-Spain CID, acting Supt Martin Morrain, formerly of the Port-of-Spain Division, will now act as the Superintendent at CID. Morrain is the officer who is investigating the tea room brawl between Housing Minister Dr Keith Rowley and Fyzabad MP Chandresh Sharma.

ASP Aldwyn Rodriguez will assume the responsibilities as ASP Crime at the Port-of-Spain CID. Acting Snr Supt Errol Denoon, who is on three weeks leave, is expected to assume full responsibilities at the Port-of-Spain CID. Acting Supt Gregory Correia, formerly of Central Division, was transferred to the Organised Crime and Narcotics Unit. Senior officers told Newsday the transfers are a normal part of the administrative process,  adding that it was done to ensure a more organised and efficient Police Service.
