Suspect in cop’s murder released
The 32-year-old man who was held for questioning into the killing of Special Reserve Police Constable Clyde Best was released from police custody around 3.30 pm yesterday. Homicide officers told Newsday the man was released because investigators did not have the necessary evidence for Director of Public Prosecutions Geoffrey Henderson. The suspect, who got back his BMW, which had been seized by police, was met by his relatives. The man was held Saturday after police officers from the Inter-Agency Task Force executed a search warrant at his Longdenville home. He was taken to the Chaguanas Police Station and later handed over to homicide officers. PC Best, 31, died around 3 am Saturday after being shot in the back by a man with whom he had an altercation. He had put the man out of the Anchorage Pub in Chaguaramas. Best is the third police officer to be killed for the year.
