No light, no water in Aranjuez
NO LIGHTS, no water and no wastewater systems are among the numerous problems facing residents of Upper Aranjuez Village. President of the Upper Aranjuez Village Council, Bissoon Birsingh, said he wrote to Minister of Public Utilities, Pennelope Beckles, seeking her help but is yet to receive a response. Birsingh told People’s Hotline that since last year, more than 75 percent of the street lights in the Aranjuez and Bridge Road areas have not been working. “The darkness caused by the non-functioning lamps provides a haven for all forms of criminal activity. Robberies and rapes have since increased in these areas,” said Birsingh.
When People’s Hotline contacted the TTEC Eastern Area Office, an official said there are a limited number of street lighting crews and that they are repairing street lights according to area. The TTEC official could not say when the problem would be solved. Referring to problems with water and wastewater in the district, Birsingh explained: “The cross streets of lower Aranjuez are without water connections, forcing residents to run house connections for hundreds of metres to the Aranjuez Road. Many times these connections become broken, resulting in losses to the system. We need water mains along the streets,” he added.
