TSTT promises better GSM service

SEVERAL customers of TSTT’s Global System for Mobile Communication (GSM) in Tunapuna, Moruga and Valsayn have complained to The People’s Hotline about service. Several of them said the service is not fully functional and in most cases, they have to go outside their homes to make a call with the GSM phone, or out of their area.

People’s Hotline has learnt from a TSTT official that 60 percent of the coverage service for GSM has just been completed. TSTT CEO Bernard Mitchell said in a release that more than $240 million is being invested in improvements to the GSM network, including the billing system. Mitchell indicated that cellular coverage was a critical area engaging the company’s attention and the reception has been improved in several areas with the addition of 14 outdoor and in-building cell sites over the last two months. Mitchell said he was acutely aware of the shortcomings of the GSM network’s coverage, and will be adding another 15 sites by the beginning of next month.
