Tourism gets $26M in Budget

THE Ministry of Tourism has received approximately $26.6 million for the continued development of Trinidad and Tobago’s tourism sector in the 2005 Public Sector Investment Programme (PSIP). Of this total allocation, $8.3 million has been provided to the Tourism Development Company for tourism-related activities. These activities include the commencement of phase one of a plan to improve beach facilities at Maracas, Manzanilla, Las Cuevas and Vessigny. According to the PSIP, one of the tourism sector’s main priorities in fiscal 2005 is to “develop linkages to manufacturing and agriculture in order to generate increased employment opportunities and an increase in the sector’s contribution to Gross Domestic Product.”
