EXCELLENCE IN BUSINESS AWARDS 2004

The countdown is on for the 2004 Excellence in Business Awards, a joint venture of the Business Development Company Limited (BDC) and Republic Bank Limited. The competition, which honours the most outstanding businesses in Trinidad and Tobago in 2004, has been narrowed to five finalists competing in several categories.

Kennicon Engineering Limited

Kennicon Engineering Limited started as a small two-man burglar proof manufacturing business in 1982 and has now grown into an ISO-certified engineering services provider, employing 135 staff and offering a diverse range of mechanical engineering products and services to both local and regional customers. Situated at the Harmony Hall Industrial Estate in Marabella, the facility occupies 65,000 square feet of space, housing the company’s offices, mechanical workshops, training and conference rooms as well as a gym for employees. Kennicon prides itself on the superior quality of its products and services, as well as the relationships it has cultivated with its many diverse customers. In 1997, Kennicon was one of the first engineering companies in Trinidad and Tobago to have its quality management system certified to the internationally recognised ISO standards.

In the years following the company was honoured for its achievements and was the recipient of several local awards including the 1999 Prime Minister’s Competitiveness Award for Services, the Robert Montano Award for Services and the 2000 Prime Minister’s Quality Award for Construction Materials. Kennicon’s products are now exported to several countries throughout the Caribbean region, including Barbados, St Lucia, St Kitts and, as of 2004, St Maarten. Kennicon has also put into place waste minimisation programmes, both within its offices and in the factory. Part of these include the manufacturing of products from steel wastage. The proceeds of these sales go towards the activities of a club that was formed for employees. The 2004 Business Development Company/Republic Bank Excellence in Business Awards will be held on Tuesday October 19, 2004 at the Hilton Trinidad Hotel and Conference Centre, Port-of-Spain.
