Dad of six dies on way to doctor
A 60-year-old man is believed to have suffered a heart attack while driving his car in the vicinity of the Jean Pierre Sports Complex at Wrightson Road, around 9.30 am yesterday. Reports revealed that around 9.30 am, Vivian Ramchand was driving his car west on Wrightson Road, when he is believed to have suffered a heart attack and lost control of his car. The vehicle ended up on the shoulder of Wrightson Road in the vicinity of the traffic lights near the complex. Fire officers from the Wrightson Road Fire Department who were passing at the time observed the runaway car parked over a drain on the shoulder of the highway. On checking they saw a man slumped in the car and attempts made to revive him.
His lifeless body was removed from the car and placed on the grass while officers of the St James Police Station were alerted. The body was later viewed by a district Medical Officer. Ramchand, of Boundary Road, San Juan, was the father of six children, and a former manager in charge of marketing and sales at National Petroleum (NP). Relatives told Newsday Ramchand was on his way to get a document signed at the St James office of a doctor when he died. He was described as a gentle, considerate and helpful person. A relative said that Ramchand went to Chaguanas and Barataria to drop off his three children. An autopsy will be carried out today to determine the cause of death. Ramchand will be buried on Monday.
