Wanted killer shot dead

A DIBE, Long Circular man wanted for several gang-related murders was shot dead and his body thrown atop a tree early yesterday morning. According to the police, three more are marked for death in his area. Tony Selman, 21, alias “Selobreast”  became the country’s 216th murder victim for the year. Police investigators believe that his death is linked to Friday’s killing of Lester Paulson, 27, who was gunned down outside his Dibe, Long Circular Road, home.

According to reports, around 6 am yesterday, Marlon Robano of LP 17, Dibe Road, Long Circular, went outside his home and saw Selman’s body hooked on a tree in his yard. The body was nude with the pants pulled down to the ankles. Officers of the St James Police Station were alerted and a party of officers led by Sgt Anthony Lezama and including Sgt James Martin, Cpl Charles, WPC Parris, Police Photographer Grant and others went to the scene along with District Medical Officer Dr Tom Pack. An initial check by the DMO revealed that Selman was shot in the chest and mouth. Residents of Dibe claimed that they heard several gunshots around 3 am yesterday. The body was ordered removed to the Forensic Science Centre. When Newsday visited the scene yesterday scores of Dibe residents gathered to catch a glimpse of the body.

Residents confirmed that Selman was a “gangster” —  he lived by the sword and died by the sword. “That boy used to kill people in cold blood, and look how he ended up dead,” said one resident who preferred to remain anonymous. Police officers told Newsday that Selman’s death is linked to Friday’s killing of Lester Paulson at Dibe. They added that an exercise was planned for yesterday to arrest Selman so that he could be quizzed over several gang-related deaths. Police officers believe that more gang-related deaths would take place in Dibe. According to the police, the warring gangs have targetted at least three other persons for death. Patricia Moses, the mother of the dead man, said she was unable to say anything about the murder since she was in shock. Homicide officers said yesterday that the murder toll has now reached alarming proportions and they feel that by the end of the year the murder toll could be as high as 250. Cpl Charles of the St James Police Station is investigating.
