Cop’s wife posts bail

After spending almost five weeks in prison, the common-law wife of arrested police officer Dave Wellington was released on Tuesday after he had her bail posted. Wellington’s 22-year-old companion Rika Samuel was arrested on September 16 by officers of the Firearm Interdiction Unit (FIU) for possession of arms and ammunition, as well as possession of cocaine. The couple was held at about 5.15 am after their Curepe home was searched during an exercise headed by Insp Mitchell Manswell. The couple was charged when officers found illegal items in their possession. When the matter was called by a Tunapuna magistrate yesterday, Samuel entered the prisoner’s docks via the public gallery while Wellington entered from the prison’s cell. Wellington has not yet been able to have anyone post his bail, which was fixed in the sum of $950,000. Attorney representing both accused, Om Lalla, was in court yesterday when the matter was called. The matter was adjourned to November 2.
