Colombian underwear store opens in Port-of-Spain

The development of the City of Port-of-Spain and the opening up of new  businesses, no matter how small, are beneficial for the country, especially in light of Government’s lobbying to host the Free Trade of the Americas (FTAA) headquarters in Port-of-Spain. That’s the sentiment of Presi-dent of the Downtown Owners Merchants Association (DOMA) Gregory Aboud, speaking at the formal launch of a South American based company, “Colombian Underwears” store, on Frederick Street, Port-of-Spain, close to Woodford Square yesterday. The store’s managing director, is Luis Botero and he is assisted by his daughter, Diana. They have imported “quality” type underclothing from lingerie to socks, all the way from South America for TT buyers. “It is a small, but significant moment for each of us present here because it reflects the continuing saga in the development of  Port-of-Spain,” said Aboud.

He noted that it must be a hopeful sign that a business from South America would want to open business in TT. Aboud said: “The best measure of a city’s performances is when new businesses open up and jobs are created.” He told those gathered at the opening that in light of government’s preparation to host the FTAA headquarters in Port-of-Spain, a lot of work was needed to be done and is being done to develop the City over the next year. “The fact that a business from South America has sought to open up business in TT, is a good sign for such countries and the rest of the English-speaking Caribbean to look forward to having the FTAA headquarters in Port-of-Spain,” he said. Aboud said among the preparations being put in place between DOMA and the Port-of-Spain City Corporation, is making the City a lot cleaner and safer place for shoppers.
