Grenadian and Trini friend killed in crash

A Grenadian national heading to the Piarco International Airport on his way back home to the hurricane ravished ‘Spice Isle’ was yesterday killed in a two car smash up. Also killed was his Trinidadian friend, while three others who were accompanying him to the airport were injured. Dead are Gordon Charles, 44, of Grenada, and Nicole John, 32 of  Quarry Street, San Juan. According to reports around 4 am a car driven by Garvin John, 41, of  Beetham Gardens, Laventille was heading south across the Churchill Roosevelt Highway proceeding from the Golden Grove Road into BWIA Boulevard when on reaching the intersection the car came in contact with a car driven by Trevor Eastlyn, 33, of  Phyllis Street, La Romain travelling from east to west. The cars spun several times on impact and came to a stop in the middle of the highway throwing both Gordon, who was sitting in the passenger seat, and John, who was sitting in the back seat, from the car.

Nicole John, a mother of one, died on impact, while Charles was rushed to the Arima Medical Facility where he died on arrival. Shenille Jemmott, 20, of Saddle Road, San Juan;  Dexter Martin, 38, of Febeau Village, San Juan; Garvin, along with the driver of the other car,  Eastlyn,  and its occupants, Nigel Denny, 27, of Phyllis Street, La Romain; Natasha Denny, 25, of  St James Street, Marabella, and Jennifer Philip, 29, of Mossettvale, Cocoyea Village, San Fernando, were all rushed to the Arima Medical Facility and later transferred to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital where they are warded in critical condition. Investigations revealed Charles, who was in Trinidad for one week to escape the pressures of the hurricane-hit island, had attended a party in Arima the night before and was returning to the Piarco International Airport to catch a 6 am flight back home when the tragedy occurred.
