PM, AG to meet on Inquiry
ATTORNEY GENERAL John Jeremie returned home over the weekend and Government sources yesterday hinted that he will meet with Prime Minister Patrick Manning early this week to formalise the appointment of a Commission of Inquiry to investigate contracts awarded to NH International and Warner Construction since the PNM returned to office in 2001. Manning announced the creation of this commission at a post-Cabinet news conference at Whitehall last Thursday and said he would meet with Jeremie to work out the details.
The Prime Minister’s announcement came following an unprecedented chain of political “flip-flopping” last week, which saw a one-man commission of inquiry being switched to the Integrity Commission and then revert to a new commission of inquiry. The sources were uncertain whether or not Jeremie made any contact with Manning upon his return to Trinidad and Tobago. The AG was in London last week, attending a Commonwealth meeting of Law Ministers and Attorneys General. Prior to his departure for London, Jeremie met separately with the Prime Minister and Housing Minister Dr Keith Rowley regarding the Landate controversy. Jeremie is expected to be present in the Senate for today’s Budget debate.
