Lawrence Duprey’s home searched
The Fairways Maraval home of CLICO’s executive chairman Lawrence Duprey was visited by officers of the Anti-Corruption Bureau yesterday. Armed with a search warrant, officers went to Duprey’s house around 11 am, where they were met by Duprey and Pointe-a-Pierre MP Gillian Lucky. Officers spent nearly an hour inside the house, leaving shortly after midday. It could not be ascertained whether the house was raided, or if certain documents were requested by the police.
The visit to Duprey’s house is part of an ongoing investigation by officers of the Anti-Corruption Bureau. One month ago, the Port-of-Spain office of CL Financial was also searched by the same officers and documents were reportedly seized. Last week, officers went to the Maraval home of another CLICO executive, Carlos John, and requested a number of documents. On Friday they also went to a CLICO office in Point Lisas.
Head of the Anti-Corruption Bureau, Snr Supt Maurice Piggott, confirmed the presence of the police at Duprey’s home yesterday. However, he refused to say what the police were investigating, or if documents were seized. Sources revealed that the investigation forms part of a probe into a London apartment allegedly purchased by a former government minister. Lucky, an attorney-at-law, told Newsday she could not comment at this time, but a maid at the house told Newsday that Duprey hurriedly left the house through a back entrance after the police party left yesterday.
