Fire razes house in Point Fortin — 8 homeless

A BANDIT carried out a robbery in South Trinidad by ordering the proprietress and her employee into a “deep-freeze” before escaping with $3,300. Sursatee Dilchan, 43, and Charmaine Sultan managed to free themselves after spending five minutes crouched in the freezer at the Lime Light Restaurant and Bar on Southern Main Road, Aripero Village, Rousillac. A police report yesterday stated that around 3:30 pm, a man entered the business place, bought a “drink” and a cigarette. He sat at a table sipping the drink, but according to the report, when other patrons in the restaurant left, the man walked up to the counter, whipped out a gun, and announced a hold-up.

Dilchan and Sultan quickly handed the man the day’s earnings of $3,300, the report stated. Police said before the man escaped from the restaurant, however, he ordered Dilchan and Sultan into a store room at gunpoint. The bandit then ordered the two to open the deep-freeze and crawl into it. Police said the proprietress and employee remained in the freezer for about five minutes. Cpl Mitchell, PCs Badri and Hosein of the Oropouche Police Station are investigating.
